Factsheet
Description
Short — one line
A deduction game about working out who lives behind each of nine doors in a state where the paperwork matters more than the people.
Medium — one paragraph
Vostrenia, 1983. The previous custodian of Habitation Block 17 walked out during a fire in the records archive and never came back, taking the building's resident register with him. You have his keys and five days before a Ministry auditor arrives expecting that register complete and correct. Nine apartments, a lobby and a basement, and nine households with years of practice at not being looked at too closely.
Long
Habitation Block 17 is a game about filling in a form correctly, and about what happens to people when you do not.
You play the newly appointed custodian of a nine-apartment housing block in the Vostrenian Socialist Republic. Your predecessor is on file as presumed deceased. The building's register — every name, every door, every occupation — burned with him. On Friday an auditor arrives to check the block against a Ministry copy last reconciled in 1974.
Everything in the building is evidence. A name inked into a ration book, boots left by a door in a size that does not match the man who owns them, a letter addressed to somebody who is not supposed to live here at all. You knock, you look, you let yourself in when nobody answers, and you write down what you conclude.
The Ministry countersigns a page only when every line on it is correct, and it will never tell you which line was wrong. There is no combat and no way to lose. There is only a register you can file accurately, or file wrong, and then live with.
Features
- One building modelled in full — nine apartments, a lobby, a basement archive — with no loading between any of it.
- A register that is the entire interface. No separate notebook, no second screen.
- Pages are countersigned only when wholly correct, and rejections never identify the failing line.
- Five in-game days. The auditor arrives on the fifth whether you are finished or not.
- No fail state. A wrong register is a valid ending, and it lands on the residents rather than on you.
- PlayStation-era rendering on purpose: low resolution, ordered dithering, affine texture warping, unstable vertices.

The studio
Severed Signal Studios
An independent studio making games about incomplete information — about what you can work out from the things people leave lying around, and what they would rather you did not. Habitation Block 17 is our first game.
